Paris (AFP) - Un militaire français membre des forces spéciales a été tué mercredi au Mali, le premier depuis la fin de l'intervention Serval en juillet, et deux autres blessés lors d'une opération destinée à freiner la résurgence des jihadistes dans le nord du pays.
Thomas Dupuy, sergent-chef du Commando parachutiste de l'air no 10 basé à Orléans (centre), est tombé "au combat tôt (mercredi) matin" dans l'Adrar des Ifoghas "dans le cadre d'une mission particulièrement périlleuse qui a atteint ses objectifs", a annoncé la présidence française dans un communiqué.
Le président François Hollande a exprimé "son profond respect pour le sacrifice de ce sous-officier des forces spéciales". "Les soldats français contribuent avec courage et efficacité à consolider la souveraineté du Mali et à lutter contre le terrorisme", a-t-il rappelé.
Le Premier ministre, Manuel Valls, et le président de l'Assemblée, Claude Bartolone, ont aussi rendu un hommage appuyé au sergent-chef, natif deToulouse et âgé de 32 ans.
Thomas Dupuy, qui avait servi précédemment en Afghanistan, participait à une mission héliportée, appuyée par des avions de chasse et des hélicoptères de combat, dans le massif du Tigharghar, au nord du Mali, a indiqué le ministère de la Défense.
Les forces françaises se sont approchées d'un "campement abritant une trentaine d'individus", lourdement armés. Des combats très violents se sont alors engagés dans lesquels "une vingtaine de terroristes ont été neutralisés", a précisé l'état-major des armés.
Un des deux militaires blessés a été pris en charge par une antenne chirurgicale avancée, ses jours ne sont pas en danger. Le second, très légèrement atteint, a rejoint rapidement son unité.
Le ministre de la Défense, Jean-Yves Le Drian, avait annoncé vendredi àBamako un renforcement du dispositif français dans le nord du Mali face à la "résurgence" de groupes jihadistes, trois mois après la fin de l'opération française Serval.
Au total, dix soldats français ont été tué au Mali depuis le lancement de Serval en janvier 2013. Le dernier en date, un légionnaire, avait été victime d'un attentat suicide le 14 juillet.
La France, qui a laissé 1.400 hommes au Mali, a réarticulé le 1er août son dispositif militaire dans la région, rebaptisé Barkhane, autour de cinq pays (Mauritanie, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Tchad).
Cette force, dotée de 3.000 hommes et à vocation antiterroriste, a été activée au nord-Mali ces derniers jours après une série d'attaques meurtrières contre la Mission de l'ONU dans ce pays (Minusma).
L'Adrar des Ifoghas, près de la frontière algérienne, a déjà été le théâtre de violents combats contre Aqmi (Al-Qaïda au Maghreb islamique) lors de l'opération Serval. Les groupes jihadistes armés, chassés alors des grandes villes du nord, essaient désormais de regagner du terrain depuis les profondeurs septentrionales du Mali et les pays voisins, où ils ont trouvé refuge.
"Les groupes jihadistes s'adaptent continuellement et gagnent en solubilité sur le terrain, notamment en s'infiltrant dans des groupes (touareg) dits +rebelles+", relève Mathieu Pellerin, chercheur spécialisé sur le Sahel à l'Institut français des relations internationales (IFRI) à Paris.

Ils sont aussi ragaillardis par la lenteur du déploiement des forces de la Minusma (8.200 hommes) au nord de la boucle du Niger, reliant Gao àTombouctou.
"Le nord du Mali est fragilisé parce que la Minusma n'a pas été au rendez-vous au moment où il le fallait", a déploré lundi M. Le Drian, en mettant en avant des problèmes logistiques.
Les jihadistes sont également servis par le sanctuaire hors pair que leur offre le Sud libyen, qui échappe à tout contrôle et vers où convergent les trafics d'armes issues des arsenaux de Mouammar Kadhafi.

Barkhane a décidé de riposter en installant une base avancée tout près de la frontière libyenne, à Madama, dans l'extrême nord du Niger, et en perturbant les trafics qui empruntent les "autoroutes" du désert vers le sud.
Début octobre, les Français ont ainsi intercepté un convoi de trois tonnes d'armes - dont un système de missile sol-air SA-7 en état de marche - qui descendait vers le Mali, destiné aux hommes d'Ag Ghali.
