Une « sorcière » décapitée en Arabie saoudite : comment les reconnaître ?
L'Arabie saoudite a exécuté une femme de 60 ans pour « pratique de la sorcellerie ». La décapitation d'Amina bint Abdul Halim bin Salem Nasser, dans la province septentrionale de Jawf, le 11 décembre, a provoqué la colère des organisations internationales de défense des droits humains et a été tournée en dérision par nombre de citoyens sur Twitter.
Selon les informations reprises par la presse, cette femme a été accusée par la police religieuse, qui a procédé à son arrestation, de « tromper les gens en leur faisant croire qu'elle pouvait guérir les maladies » et de leur demander de l'argent en échange de ses « soins ».
Elle a été arrêtée en avril 2009 et reconnue coupable par un tribunal saoudien.
Amnesty International : « Absolument révoltant »
Amnesty International a qualifié cette décapitation de « profondément choquante et soulignant la nécessité et l'urgence de mettre fin aux exécutions en Arabie saoudite ».
Pour Philip Luther, directeur intérimaire du programme Moyen-Orient et Afrique du Nord d'Amnesty International :
« Les accusations de “sorcellerie” ne sont pas définies comme étant des crimes en Arabie saoudite et les utiliser pour soumettre quelqu'un au châtiment cruel et extrême qu'est son exécution est absolument révoltant. »

Sur Twitter, Ahmed Al Attar (@AhmedwAlAttar), d'Abu Dhabi, aux Emirats Arabes Unis, tourne en dérision la nouvelle :
« Félicitons tous les Saoudiens, la décapitation d'une femme jugée de façon douteuse comme “ sorcière ” signifie qu'ils viennent d'entrer dans le XVIe siècle. »
Le journaliste Tom Gara (@tomgara), qui vit aux Emirats, plaisante :
« L'Arabie saoudite ignore-t-elle que décapiter une sorcière ne fait qu'accroître ses pouvoirs magiques ? »

L'Arabie saoudite a exécuté cette année au moins 79 personnes, dont cinq femmes, selon Amnesty International. Le nombre d'exécutions a triplé par rapport à l'an dernier, où 27 personnes ont été décapitées.
L'organisation de défense des droits humains ajoute :
« Nous pensons que des centaines d'autres personnes sont condamnées à mort, dont beaucoup pour infraction à la législation sur les drogues. Ces personnes n'ont souvent pas d'avocat, et dans de nombreux cas n'ont pas été informées du déroulement des procédures à leur encontre. »
